Back Then

© - 1999 Ric Raftis

Would you like to live in times gone by
Experience our pioneer past
When explorers traversed the outback
And drovers searched for grass

The pace of life was slower then
It depended on your horse
None of the rush and haste of today
A far more natural course

People were different, they'd talk to you then
Stop for a cuppa and say "G'day"
Catch up on all the local news
Or just pass the time of day

Life was tough, hours long no doubt
Twenty mile from town would take all day
Now we have fast cars and jets
You can be in the US in a day

But is that what you want
The world in your backyard, so stifling you can't breathe the air
Well not for me, I like it slower
I think I'd be better back there
